Responsible Living

Living with Responsibility

Empowering responsible independence

Fostering autonomy, accountability and growth

Life at Mahindra United World College of India (MUWCI) offers students an opportunity to live independently and responsibly. We provide a safe space where students can enjoy their freedom while having support structures to ensure their safety.

Our approach to student autonomy

Supporting independent living at every step

Our commitment to sustaining a healthy, autonomous environment begins as early as the admissions stage. Applications are screened rigorously to find prospective students who demonstrate personal responsibility.

Once on campus, students can find support from their Advisors, Wada and House Parents, Wellbeing Psychologist, and Head of Student Life to help them lead a successful independent lifestyle.

As our students grow more confident in making the most of the campus’s opportunities, they can realize their full potential and thrive at MUWCI.

Class Timings

Classes are held between 8:30 a.m. to 3:50 p.m. on weekdays. Some afternoons and evenings, students will have scheduled activities (Trivenis). Beyond this time, they are free to use their time for academic work, co-curricular activities, or leisure time.

Off-Days

Saturdays are completely free, while activities are often planned for Sundays. If they have no prior commitments, students may go off campus after school and on weekends, provided they return by the designated time and have parental permission.

Daily Check-ins

Wada parents check in every night to ensure all students are safe and accounted for. Students are expected to co-operate with their wada parents to ensure their continuing safety, and overall academic and personal well-being. Our wada parents reside on campus.

Code of Conduct

Guidelines to abide by on the campus

All our students agree to abide by the Code of Conduct. This ensures their safety on campus and fosters a healthy, respectful environment for all.

Our students are human and can make mistakes. There are multiple stages of disciplinary action. Violations of the Code of Conduct are treated differently according to severity (e.g., consumption of illegal substances is dealt with more harshly than attendance requirements).

While we encourage our students to live independently and responsibly, we understand that parents are interested in knowing how their child is faring on campus. We send reports twice a year to the parents informing them of their child’s academic conduct and any disciplinary issues that may have arisen. This helps us achieve a balance between our students’ autonomy and parental involvement.

Attendance

Students are expected to manage their time well and attend all classes and co-curricular activities. If their attendance falls below the requirement, their advisor will work with them to understand why and help them find a solution. Further, unexcused absences will result in disciplinary action.

We treat our students as adults in this regard, and our primary goal is to help avoid repeat offenses, rather than punish them right away.

Movement Restrictions

Students must be present in their wada for nightly check-ins at the designated times and adhere to the noise and movement guidelines. These guidelines ensure their safety on campus and help them wind down at the end of the day and get adequate rest to ensure a healthy lifestyle.

Respecting these guidelines is essential for the student’s health and consideration for their peers.

Substance Abuse, Relationships

Our campus is alcohol, tobacco, and drug-free, and we have a Zero Tolerance Policy towards the consumption of drugs. However, if a student comes forward seeking help for the use of drugs/alcohol or self-harm/harm to others, we have a Safe Haven Policy to help them get better without disciplinary proceedings.

Sexual activity is forbidden in public areas of campus, including in students’ rooms.
