Teaching and Learning Support

Our diverse faculty

Our approach to learning-support

Bringing real-world experience into the classroom

Our classrooms consist of students with varying cultural understandings and language proficiencies. While some may see these differences as impediments, we understand that they are, in fact, our strengths.

We encourage every student to participate in discussions, ensuring that a range of views across cultural backgrounds is expressed and heard. Students use references, including news and current affairs broadcasts, from any language they are comfortable in, opening our discussions to global voices. We commit to nurturing an environment where students can be open, inquisitive, and respectful, helping you break down preconceived notions and be open to new ideas.

Embracing diversity for a holistic education

Our classrooms consist of students with varying cultural  understandings and language proficiencies.

Ongoing assistance

Our Learning Support team helps students with skills such as essay writing, time management, or study techniques.

Identify difficulties

We identify students facing difficulties who may benefit from assessment for specific learning difficulties.

Academic support

We are always on the lookout for students in need of academic support to help them progress and grow at a reasonable pace.

Language support

For non-native language speakers

Our primary language of instruction is English, but many students come from backgrounds where they speak another language natively. Students can:

  • Choose to study literature in their own language through the School-Supported Self-Taught Literature option to fulfill the IB Group 1 requirement. (Literature in over 50 languages is offered by the IB and literature for special request languages are also available.)
  • Visit the Learning Support Centre to get support with their writing and speaking skills from the Learning Support coordinator.

First-year students who require extra help in English are invited to be part of a 10-day Language Immersion Programme held two weeks before the start of the academic year that helps them get acquainted with hearing English and getting comfortable on campus before Orientation Week.

Learning support & peer tutoring

Comprehensive academic support

Students with learning or physical difficulties are encouraged to inform us of these and contact the Learning Support Coordinator when they are on campus. All students are encouraged to monitor their progress and proactively approach the support office if they need guidance.

In addition, each academic department organises a weekly peer tutoring group to help students who are having trouble grasping concepts or need extra help with their homework.

Since a student’s mental health can affect their academic performance (and vice versa), the Learning Support Office works closely with the Counsellor and Advisors to maintain a comprehensive overview on students’ performance and well-being.

Making the transition to IB has been difficult but extremely rewarding! Making smart and informed subject choices and learning how to seek help has made me more confident in my abilities.
