The Anthropology Club is a Creativity Triveni that aims at bringing people closer together and fostering cultural understanding. More specifically, we want to learn about the lifestyles, customs, traditions and personal stories of the inhabitants of different communities of the Mulshi Valley and beyond.
Where?
Asade Village is a village near Paud and the destination of our first field trip. This was a collaboration between the Kalpana Service Triveni and Anthropology Club.
What?
On Wednesday, the 4th of September, a group of 14 students and 2 faculty set out by bus and soon reached Asade school. Once there, we met up with a number of students who come from the surrounding areas and would help us explore the village. Therefore, we quickly split into smaller groups and made our way through the residential areas, talking to its inhabitants and observing their way of living.
However, that is not the only way we want to interact with people – especially the school kids! Playing games like kho-kho (one of my absolute favourites!!) or just talking and having fun creates bonds and friendships – and ultimately some unforgettable memories.
Our UWC Way:
Especially for first year students who come from very different backgrounds, this was something entirely new – something strange, unexpected or fascinating. I can only compliment them for their exceptional curiosity, open-mindedness and engagement on our very first field trip! Although it is not always easy or intuitive, this is the kind of behaviour expected from UWC students. This is the kind of journey that we all go through together – and the Anthropology Club offers one more path to become a better listener and observer. Guided by genuine curiosity and respect, we are eager to learn and share our impressions with the entire community.
*The Anthropology Club has sessions every Monday from 5pm to 6:30pm and in the future field trips will also be announced to the community (Yes, you can join even if you’re not in the Triveni!). We are open and happy to welcome any guests.
