Volunteering for Reunion 2024 – reflections of a UWC Pearson Alumna

Volunteering at UWC Mahindra College as a student from UWC Pearson in Canada was such an awesome experience. Doing the ‘Service’ part of my CAS there was super fun and really meaningful. The staff at UWC Mahindra were amazing – they took great care of me, welcomed me with open arms, and made sure I knew exactly what I needed to do.

My tasks were pretty varied: I helped alumni fill out forms, checked them in, handed out welcome presents, and made sure everything was organised. Plus, I got to work on social media posts, which was a lot of fun capturing footage and being able to highlight the beautiful hugs and happiness of reunions.

What made the experience even more special were the alumni themselves. These people have done incredible things in their careers after only 20 years and have so much wisdom to share about their UWC journey, the IB program, and life in general. Chatting with them was super inspiring and gave me a lot to think about on a personal level and how I want to be a second year at Pearson, as well as what I want to pursue in the future. I am part of the second cohort of the Climate Action Leadership Diploma and was able to find a handful of alumni who are currently working in climate-related jobs and were happy to mentor me on my professional climate-related journey.

Seeing the similarities and differences between Pearson College UWC and Mahindra College UWC was super interesting. This experience really opened my eyes and made me appreciate the unique yet connected vibe of the UWC community even more. Both campuses share such strong values and a vibrant culture, which makes being part of this global family so special.

Overall, my time at UWC Mahindra College was unforgettable. The mix of meaningful work, inspiring conversations, and warm hospitality made it an incredibly enriching experience. Experiencing the UWC spirit in action, both at Mahindra and reflecting on Pearson, really reinforced how impactful and unique our global community is. I highly recommend getting involvedy in UWC service opportunities – it’s an awesome way to learn, grow, and connect with amazing people from around the world. I’m so grateful for the opportunity and excited to bring these experiences, insights and stories back with me!
